Method

    Bring 1 cup water to a boil in a small saucepan. Stir in the steel-cut oats and reduce the heat to low.

    Simmer uncovered for 20–22 minutes, stirring occasionally, until creamy and tender; add a splash of water if the pan dries out.

    Stir in small apple, diced and cinnamon for the final 4 minutes so the apple softens.

    Spoon into a bowl, top with chopped walnuts, and serve warm.
